Lasell women's volleyball off to strong start amid brawl vs Brandeis, tri-match at UMASS Dartmouth

Updated: Sep 17

This week, the women’s volleyball team went 2-1. On Wednesday night it hosted the Brandeis Judges at the Athletic Center.

The match teetered back and forth, with both teams tied at nine in the early goings. Just as the Lasers began to pull away, Brandeis stormed back to win the first set, 22-25.

The Lasers began the second set refocused, not looking to fall into a 0-2 hole. They took advantage of early Brandeis errors and jumped to an 11-5 lead. Despite the early push, the visitors continued to chip away at the lead, cutting the deficit to 23-17 late in the set. However, the Lasers weathered the storm and took the second set by a score of 25-18. The set win charged up a home crowd that was seemingly growing by the minute and sparked a wave of momentum that the Lasers rode to a 4-1 match win.

Following their win over Brandeis, the Lasers traveled to UMASS Dartmouth for a Saturday tri-match where they played both the hosting Corsairs and the Emerson College Lions. The Lasers split the day, beating Emerson in five sets and falling to UMASS Dartmouth in four.

Next week, the 6-2 women’s volleyball team will be on the road against Wheaton on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Rivier on Saturday, where they will face the hosting Raiders at 11 a.m. and the Albertus Magnus Falcons at 1 p.m.
