On June 26, the Lasell community was informed by an update posted on the Athletics site announcing that Jamie Marcoux was hired as the assistant vice president (AVP) for athletics, effective June 24.

Marcoux is a familiar face within the GNAC after having served as the athletic director of Johnson & Wales University from 2013-2018.

“I am very excited to be joining the Lasell family. I want to thank President Turner and Associate Vice President Hennessey for providing me with this opportunity,” Marcoux said. “I am committed to the continued development and growth of Athletics in support of the University’s mission and vision. We will continue to enhance the student athlete experience on all levels while increasing engagement and pride across campus.”

Marcoux will fulfill the AVP position that has been vacant since its creation in June 2023, when former president Michael B. Alexander announced the new role, alongside the elimination of the athletic director and assistant athletic director positions.

“The university and everyone involved really took their time with the search to ensure that we welcomed in the best candidate possible,” Director of Athletic Communications Morgan Choquet said. “[Marcoux is] hitting the ground running. I'm hopeful that with her direction and leadership that the staff will truly be heard and we can transform the department into something really special for our student-athletes."

According to an update posted on the Lasell athletics website, Marcoux spent the last two years as the Director of Athletics for Northbridge (Mass.) Public Schools.

Before Northbridge, Marcoux held athletic department roles at Assumption College and Springfield College.

Marcoux began her 21-year tenure at Johnson & Wales as the Head Women’s Volleyball coach. She took on different leadership roles in the department until she became Director of Athletics in 2013.

At Lasell, in the absence of an AVP, Chief of Staff Jennifer OKeeffe and more recently, Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs Dave Hennessey have overseen the athletics department.

"We are very excited to have Jamie P. Marcoux join us as Lasell’s first Assistant Vice President for Athletics,” Hennessey said. “In the search, we sought someone to provide visionary leadership and instill an atmosphere of enthusiasm and professionalism while being dedicated to the academic and personal growth of students…Jamie is a proven professional in all aspects of leading an athletic department.”

Marcoux’s goals include enhancing the overall student-athlete experience, as well as increasing engagement and pride across campus.

“Working together to combine resources, staffing and ideas we can offer the best opportunities for educational growth and personal development,” Marcoux said. “It is an exciting time to be a member of the Lasell University community and I am honored to be a part of it!”
